NAMEPLATE INFORMATION

A nameplate will usually comply with a fairly simple format.

1) A frame size, which will look something like D250M, it may be longer than this but it is the numbers you are looking for as on a standard metric motors these will tell you the frame size.

2) Serial number - This will help identify when the motor was made and is often required when ordering spares etc.

3) Kilowatt (kW) or Horsepower (HP) of the machine.

4) RPM - speed of the machine

5) Voltage (v) - often written 220/380 meaning that the motor will fun at 220 volts or 380 volts depending on how it is connected at the termial block (star (Y) or delta (D or triangle)). Star connection commonly links on one side of the terminal block linking three terminals in a line leaving the other three for the power leads. Delta connection is commonly links between pairs of termials across the block.

6) Current (A) is usually shown as the current drawn by the motor under full load.

7) Phase (ph) will be 1 for single phase of 3 for three phase.8) Hertz (hz) is usually 50 or 60 but are commonly plated for both.Other items that you may find listed include capacitor sizes (for single phase motors), bearings sizes, efficiency ( cos phi ) and insulation class
